Founded in 1728, the Pennsylvania Gazette was the second newspaper published in Philadelphia. Benjamin Franklin and his partner, Hugh Meredith, purchased it in 1729. This 1756 issue contains the plan of education for the Latin, Greek, and Philosophy schools of the recently chartered College and Academy of Philadelphia (today’s University of Pennsylvania). It includes Aristotle’s Poetics for second-year students in Classical and Rhetorical Studies.
