This volume brings together a set of essays that probe the intersections of Dante’s poetics with questions of sound, voice, embodiment, and political meaning, while also extending outward into broader literary, philosophical, and cultural terrains. The contributions explore how Dante theorizes and stages the relation between voice and sound, between the expressive body and its instrumentalization, and between individual utterance and collective articulation, situating these dynamics within both medieval intellectual traditions and the poet’s own imaginative constructions. At the same time, the volume engages closely with key episodes and figures of the Commedia, as well as with its afterlives, offering readings that move between textual analysis, philosophical inquiry, and comparative perspectives. Across its essays, particular attention is given to the materiality of language—its acoustic, performative, and symbolic dimensions—and to the ways in which these shape representations of justice, authority, and community. Rather than converging on a single interpretive framework, the volume presents a series of complementary approaches that together foreground the richness and complexity of Dante’s engagement with voice, meaning, and the embodied experience of language.
