A Certain Cure for a Scald Head Take verdigrease & fresh Butter & Deers suet & make an Oyntment of it By this ointment unkle John Holme cured several verry Bad Scald Heads, without Plucking out any of the hairs he Gott the Receipt from a small manuscript Book of his fathers Experiences take half a Pound of Deers fatt & halfe a pound of fresh Batter without salt Just melt & mix them together adding halfe an Ounce of Verdigrease pounded to powder & mixt in it & anoint the head – there with this ointment cured a Girl that was Daughter to a friend of mine of a very bad Scald head without pulling out any of the hairs only shaving it close & wash it often to keep it clean with a Lather of Casteel Sope Sudds & some times wash the head with Cows Piss my cousin Eliza Adams has cured a Grate many with with this Oyntment for I imparted the secret to her when the scald is cured anoint the head with oyl of cream to Cleanse & heal it make the oyl of cream thus take a pint of thick cream & put it on a fue coale cakes at some distance from the fier & keep it Gently simmering a long time till you see a clear oyl on it which keep for use.

For Scabs on the Face My brother Samll when an Infant by sucking his mother when she was in a surfeit or heat Broke out all over his face with scabs I think as bad as in the worst Small Pox & was speedily cured by an Oyntment made of a very fatt Loyn of mutton Roasted and Basted with common Tarr you must Roast the whole Loyn meat & sewit all togather and keep frequently Basting it with the tarr till it is Rotten Roasted Ready to fall of the Spitt then your Oyntment is compleated take care it Don’t Burn in the Driping pan putt a fender before it & Lett no salt come on it. It also cured my husbands Brother Hepen that was in as bad a condition by suckling a woman that was in a violent heat. The way that I made my Black Salve Which is an Excellent Plaster for sores of Boyls or Corn or Cutts or Broken Skins the best Salve for sore fingers that I ever knew take half a pound of mutton tallow & halfe a pound of Bees wax & a quarter of a pound of common black pitch and just melt them togather. Note mutton suet is far more healing than any other tallow what so ever. Met the Bees wax first then putt in the pitch then the tallow for the pitch will not melt in the tallow & if you make the Bees wax two hott the pitch will not melt but burn at the bottom.
