Aristotle on Sex and Other Problems

Although Aristotle had lots to say about reproduction and generation, he did not write the bestselling women's health and sex manual that circulated widely in England under the title Aristotle's Masterpiece from 1684. This textual tradition, shown here in numerous editions spanning centuries, engaged with the mysteries of conception, pregnancy, and childbirth for a popular audience. The Aristotelian attribution connected the Masterpiece generally with knowledge of nature and more specifically with the legacy of another pseudo-Aristotelian text, the Problems, some of which dealt with sex in the question-and-answer format.
