Siren! A magazine for feminism, media, and activism

ABOUT THE MAGAZINE

Siren! is an open-access, digital platform driven by a transnational feminist editorial collective. We are committed to curating critical written and multimedia work on communication, media, activism, and feminist theory and praxis from diverse regions of the world.

We prioritize accessibility, fostering an interdisciplinary and international readership that spans academic, activist, and creative communities. We aim for deliberate, slow, and sustainable forms of publishing, contesting and rethinking the model of the academic journal as the only authoritative site of intellectual dialogue. We recognize the importance of a reflective and unfolding creative process, emphasizing generative, care-full, and equitable collaborations, ensuring a fair distribution of labor and time between contributors, reviewers, and editors.

Siren! is a space for mentorship and experimentation, supporting early-career scholars, thinkers, and creators at various stages of creation. We do this both by encouraging the publication of finalized works, as well as works in progress and developing ideas. We challenge the academic privileging of the written word in knowledge production, uplifting the voices of public scholars, activists, artists, independent researchers, and other organic intellectuals working beyond the confines of elite institutions in the U.S. and other hegemonic territories. Our commitment to horizontality is reflected not only in the voices we amplify but also in the way we work. Through a collaborative peer-review process and collective content curation, Siren! reimagines publishing as a feminist practice of solidarity, dialogue, and transformation.
